Natural supports are those who are apart of a person’s support system. A natural support may be a mentor engaged with during the Discovery process, a support worker that supports the person into the workplace and eventually, it will be a person who works within that same environment as your person and your support worker should fade out. By encouraging natural supports within the workplace this allows the person to become more independent and reduces interference from support personal. This encourages opportunities for personal growth and independence. It also promotes social inclusion within the persons working environment. You can find natural supports through community engagement and activities. These people allow for open communication and encourage skill development.
